A bit of wishful thinking

I’ve been listening to a lot of Barry Manilow songs lately (please don’t judge me) and I’ve found another song that resonates a little with how I feel but needs a little reworking to fit my situation.

Like the previous song, I hope the writers (Bruce Howard Sussman, Barry Manilow, Drey Shepperd, Jack A. Feldman and Gerard William Kenny) forgive my destroying their work ("I Made It Through The Rain") and see it as an homage.

"I Want To Make It Through The Rain"

We depressives have our ways
Of facing rainy days
And somehow we survive
We keep our feelings warm
Protect them from the storm
Until our time arrives
Then hopefully the sun appears
And we come shining through those lonely years

I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my world protected
I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my point of view
I want to make it through the rain

I want to find myself respected
By the others who
Got rained on too
And made it through

When friends are hard to find
And life seems so unkind
Sometimes I feel afraid
Just aim beyond the clouds
And rise above the crowds
And start your own parade
'Cause if I finally chase my fears away
That's when I know that I can finally say

I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my world protected
I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my point of view
I want to make it through the rain

I want to find myself respected
By the others who
Got rained on too
And made it through

I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my world protected
I want to make it through the rain
I want to keep my point of view
I want to make it through the rain

I want to find myself respected
By the others who
Got rained on too
And made it through
And made it through
I hope I’ll make it through

I only wish my psychotherapist gets to read this and then listens to me when I say that the only way to protect my world is to stay as far away from face-to-face human interaction as possible.
